Trafficking
Trafficking is a serious crime where an individual is moved from one place to another against their will for the purpose of exploitation. Those who have been refused asylum are more at risk of being trafficked.
UK NARIC

Unaccompanied Asylum Seeking Children (UASC)
Children who are outside of their own country of origin, separated from both of their parents and applying for asylum in the UK.
United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR)
This is the United Nations Refugee Agency. It is a global organisation dedicated to saving lives, protecting rights and building a better future for refugees.
Universal Credit
This is the UK Government’s main social security payment (sometimes known as welfare benefits). This can be available to refugees but not asylum seekers or refused asylum seekers.
Voluntary Return
The UK Government operates a range of schemes which aim to support individuals to return to their country of origin voluntarily. This could be through the UK Government’s Assisted Voluntary Return scheme, through individuals making their own travel arrangements, or through asking the UK Government with support in making travel arrangements.
Vulnerable Children’s Resettlement Scheme (VCRS)
This is a UK Government-managed refugee resettlement scheme supporting children and their families who are living in refugee camps in the Middle East or North Africa.
Wales Asylum and Refugee Doctors scheme (WARD)
This is a Welsh Government-funded scheme supporting people seeking sanctuary who were medical doctors in their home countries to find employment in the National Health Services.
Welfare Benefits
Welfare benefits are also known as social security payments. The UK operates a social security system which helps those who are unemployed, disabled or retired to access social security payments. Social security is managed by the Department for Work and Pensions.
